((I have nothing to do with this whatsoever. I would, however, like it made known that I love the word "provenance."))

Research Notes

Background:

The tol'vir were created to maintain titan lore repositories and titan machinery surrounding the titan cities of Ulduar and Uldum. Not long after the troll empires divided the insectoid kingdom of the aqir, the aqir that travelled north discovered and overthrew the tol'vir society in Northrend. (1) These aqir would eventually become the race we know as the nerubians today, having adapted the tol'vir's architecture for their own purposes. Similarly, the aqir that travelled south ransacked and overthrew a titan research station near Uldum, renaming themselves the qiraji and calling their new home Ahn'Qiraj. The presence of 'obsidian destroyers' (2) in Ahn'Qiraj is enough to demonstrate the link.

Origin of Artifact:

When the tol'vir were afflicted by the Curse of Flesh, (3) as many creations of the Titans were, they were offered to swear allegiance to Deathwing in order to regain their stone skin. The Neferset tol'vir decided to side with Deathwing in exchange for reattaining their stone bodies. But the people of Orsis refused and the Elemental Lord Al'Akir, buried Orsis beneath the sands in a great windstorm. (4) This is suspected to be how the artifact came to be buried in the sands of Uldum.

History of Artifact:

The stone jar has been confirmed as an artifact dating from the reign of Emperor Ninjter, a much-loved leader of the tol'vir whose life and reign were cut short due to his early demise. Tol'vir hieroglyphs etched into the exterior of the jar (5) depict the coronation ceremony of Emperor Ninjter, complete with the people rejoicing and stylized illustrations of a prosperous Vir'naal river delta. (6)

Contents of Artifact:

The jar has not yet been breached, though evidence of a wax seal exists in the form of residue present around the rim. The artifact is currently in the possession of the Explorers' League and shall be opened in a secure facility on <date>, barring complications.

The Explorers' League is currently waiting on findings from further visits to the Orsis region, west of the Vir'naal delta. It is conjectured that further information obtained from this area will provide hints as to the contents of the jar. (7)

(1) Although the Scourge would eventually consume the nerubian empire and throw its few remaining tol'vir slaves into the front lines, it is possible that more tol'vir still exist deep within the remnants of Azjol-Nerub.

(2) The entities known as obsidian destroyers, seen in conjunction with the aqir during the War of the Shifting Sands, are actually tol'vir.

(3) The Curse of Flesh is a curse suffered by many titanic creations, notably the dwarves. The curse is believed to originate from the Old Gods and changed the structure and appearance of these races from their original stony/metallic forms into the fleshy forms we know of today.

(4) The Ramkahen were given the same choice but refused, they however have taken steps to insure their safety after seeing the aftermath of the attack on Orsis.

(5) Sketches of the artifact's exterior have been enclosed.

(6) Topographical maps have proven sufficient to confirm the geography upon the exterior of the jar as that of the Vir'naal region.

(7) The researcher will soon be returning to this region in order to perform further excavation as well as amass verbal evidence from the tol'vir themselves.
