RP Addons

Required
Gryphonheart Items: Lets players create and use "items" of varying complexity. Books, buffs, even sounds. Some versions have caused memory leaks, frame rate drops, and error cascades while raiding--if WoW suddenly starts having problems, disable GHI first. It's great when it works.
MyRolePlay: Allows you to display IC character information such as full name, description, and history.

Or alternately...

XRP: A new RP profile addon.  It's gaining popularity; people who try it seem to like it.  Similar to MRP.

Chat Enhancement Suites
Appearance control, URL copying, alias and alt names, quick invite, chat history, chat copying: they all do it all. Try them and decide which fits you!

Chat Loggers
Elephant: Logs chat in-game. Separates each channel; stores up to 1,000 lines per channel. Great for in-game reference and back-up; because of the way it splits channels, not ideal for copying logs to keep.
WoWScribe Chat Logger: Lets you control what channels are saved to wowchat.txt (activated by typing /chatlog).

Dress-Up
Cosplay: Adds a button to undress the model in the Dressing room, which makes viewing some items easier (eg. Checking out some new pants if you wear a robe).
MogIt: In-game equipment catalog. Lets you build and share wishlists and outfits.

Quality of Life
Addon Control Panel: Manage your addons in-game.
BxNotepad: An in-game notepad. Great for jotting down ideas, composing journals, or keeping track of lists.
LanguageCycle: Toggles between Common and Racial languages. Provides an option to translate racial languages in guild and party chat.
Misspelled: In-line spell checker.

Other Popular Addons...
Optional.  While we may not recommend these, some people like them.

Tongues: Language/dialect addon. When you see someone talking in [Cat] or [Worgen], they're using Tongues. I try it every so often and always find it to interfere with other addons. It can also lead to some really obnoxious RP.
Total RP 2 (TRP2): Like MRP and GHI had a baby, then dressed it for a pageant and taught it to sing and dance. My main gripe with TRP2 is that it encourages bad habits such as huge status lines.
