((I'll list some general information of what has occurred thus far and common facts/clues that have been given and made common knowledge to all Servitors))

On the evening of January 5th, three Dwarven mountaineers were found dead while on a patrol on the coast of the Wetlands, north of Swiftgear Post. A Kingdom-wide alert has been sent out to be on watch for what may have done this. A significant reward has been tendered for any information that can help solve the cause of these deaths, or from apprehension of what/who committed them.

On January 14th, the Servitors were called out to investigate the site of the killings and speak with the squadmates of those killed. They visited the site where not much could be found except for three significant scorched areas of land burned black where the bodies were found. Afterwards the Servitors spoke with Sergeant Honeybeard and Medical Officer Sharpsteel about what happened.

Some clues / evidence / information that were discovered were:

1.  Scorched hoofprints leading away from the body site east until they are lost on the main road. They appear very similar to felsteed hoofprints.

2. Anthus discovered an empty pouch of tobacco. It's origins are unknown though Jo seems to recognize it from a smoke shop in Ironforge. Sergeant Honeybeard confirmed that of the three slain mountaineers, only Bevo Bottlebrew carried tobacco but it was unfamiliar to the Sergeant.

3. Ah'lam communicated the water elementals in the nearby pond. They're reaction was highly suspicious and they repeated the Kalimag words for 'green fire'.

4.There have been no recent major threats that may be tied to the deaths. Only notable suspicious activities have been reports of Dark Iron dwarf deserters from the outer mountaineer companies. It is unknown for the reason for their desertion other than general discontent with the Dwarven Kingdom as a whole. They're whereabouts are unknown.

5. The slayings themselves were very horrific, with all three victims suffering from both severe burn damage as well as violent, ravaging lacerations. The Medic stated they seemed like the wounds from the claws of a beast.

6. A mysterious dagger was found in one of the victim's bodies. It is not a dwarven dagger and is made from a green-purple metal with a hilt of bone from an unidentified source.

7. No ammunition was discharged from the mountaineers' weapons, and their axes and hammers were drawn but did not appear to have harmed any possible attacker(s).

8. The local populace has not been questioned by the mountaineers. Citizens of Swiftgear Station and Menethil Harbor, as well as bayou trappers may have some insight onto what happened.

It is five in the morning and he hasn't slept, hasn't even attempted it. A young dwarf rests in the bed at his side, her wild orange hair half covering her face, a vast contrast to her blackish grey skin. He's certain she's asleep, now, as not a hint of fiery glow comes from beneath her eyelids. A gentle knock on the door rouses him from his watch and he opens it to find relief in the form of a neatly dressed nurse.

“You look exhausted,” the nurse comments as he steps in, shrugging off his long cloak. Rethier notes a hint of a Wildhammer accent in his Dwarvish. “Any change?”

The question draws a sigh from the Dark Iron. “None, not for the better. I recommend keeping her under twenty four hour watch for another day, until we can talk with her parents and begin treatment.” He glances back to the sleeping girl. She can't be more than thirty, not even near adulthood yet, but circumstance and misfiring in her mind brought her nearly to a point of no return. For his part, Rethier is grateful to have been the one on call. They have a shared clan, after all.

“Go home, get some rest,” the Wildhammer says as he takes up his spot in Rethier's abandoned chair. “I'll see you later today.”

The streets of Ironforge are slowly moving this early in the morning, with tired night shift guards saluting their replacements and sluggish shopkeepers grumbling as they unlock iron and steel doors. Rethier's body aches for sleep but he refuses to cave and follow the familiar paths back to his room in the Dark Iron clan's official offices. Instead, he takes a wrong turn down several wide avenues and ends up outside a tobacco shop in the great ring around, as he calls it, the disgustingly grandiose forge. The door is open, although he's quite sure he'll be the first customer of the morning.

“Can I help you?” The shopkeeper sounds groggy but terse and Rethier steels himself as he steps over the threshold.

“Possibly, sir,” he says with utmost politeness, offering the pouch to the dwarf. “I was given this tobacco as a secret Greatfather Winter gift and I cannot seem to find it anywhere. Do you think you could help?”

It's such a simple reason, offering little backstory beyond an unlabeled gift while also being almost unquestionable. The shopkeeper scowls as he opens a few cases of tins, although he makes no racial comments, not yet. Rethier allows a pleasant smile in response and the man grumbles all the harder. It will be a long day, hunting shops until he's found as perfect a match as he can, but her request for assistance sounded genuine, if somewhat desperate, and so he braces himself for a long, exhausting day of tobacco hunting.

((Reth will be hunting all tobacco shops in IF to find a match for that pouch, if it's out there to find! Let me know if you need rolls for it.))

<A letter with the seal of the Ironforge Mountaineers arrives at the desk of Commander Etharion longsight, the handwriting is a clearly legible, practiced block lettering>

Commander Longsight,

I have spoken with several of the Captains of other mountaineer and infantry battalions in the Wetlands, Loch Modan, and Badlands. All of them have confirmed the rumors of desertion amongst their ranks.

It was reported to have begun in the Badlands first, with a few mountaineers leaving one or two at a time. It seemed to be an independent issue until more and more started leaving in the half-dozens from all the outer territories.

No one can point to a specific cause for desertion, as a variety of reasons have flown around from hearsay and scuttlebutt, but the general impression is one of malcontent against the Council of Three Hammers and the equality of Dark Iron Clan members alongside the other two Clans.

Current estimates number the deserters at around one hundred; a sizeable force of trained soldiers. There has been no sign of where these deserters have gone to or if they are united or scattered to their own freedoms. Claims of Blackrock Mountain, Grim Batol and even Kalimdor have been heard but no evidence exists to confirm these locations.

At this time no action has been taken by Alliance High Command or the Dwarven Kingdom, citing 'bigger issues' of Draenor Campaign and other more prevalent threats to the homefront.

I hope you may find this useful for your investigation.

Dutifully,

Cpl. Kettleburn

P.S. This all sounds rather fishy for my taste. Keep your eyes peeled for any unusual dwarven activity around your lands.

*The letter arrives in a crisp envelope bearing the seal of the Dark Iron clan's offices within Ironforge - a fiery anvil in front of a mountain. The handwriting is neat to the point of almost appearing typed, if such a thing was even possible. It is hand delivered via a Dark Iron messenger.*

ATTN: COMMANDER ETHARION LONGSIGHT AND/OR RELEVANT ADVISORS

Dear Sir or other Relevant Authority,

As per Sergeant Mindspanner's personal request, I have looked into the origins of the tobacco and pouch discovered by you and your subordinates in the Wetlands and here, in summary, is what I have uncovered.

After a search of Ironforge's smoke shops, I was eventually pointed towards the correct one and met with the shopkeeper, a fellow clan member and quite happy to be of service. (The story I used was that the tobacco was a gift from a secret Greatfather Winter and that I was in search of more, having enjoyed it greatly.) He recognized the brand by the insignia on the pouch itself, declaring that it was of a plantation in the Wetlands by the name of Stonesmoke Tobacco Sellers, located in the foothills south of Ironforge Mountain. He also noted that the pouch was unusual in that it isn't the kind he is approved to sell here at his shop, that instead a person must have bought this pouch directly from the plantation itself or knew someone who had. I would feel comfortable putting forth that it's likely a special in-house blend, if you will, that is unique to the location itself. The only other thing of note that he mentioned is that this blend, in his shop at least and presumably at the plantation as well, is popular with all visitors and is not unique to mine or any other clans.
(Forgive my adding that as a note, but the sergeant mentioned her concern at the clan's name being pulled into such grim business.)

If you, and other decision makers within the organization, feel it would be proper, I would be willing to lend my aid in your investigations on this matter. If a rogue member of my clan is indeed involved, I feel duty bound to see they are brought to whatever form of justice is deemed necessary. I myself serve as a Dark Iron clan liaison within Ironforge, also serving the lesser Khaz Modan region, and so it appears fitting to me that I offer my assistance, even if it serves only to quell suspicions towards my clan as a whole.

May the Light guide and Shadows protect,

Dear Mr. Flameforge,

Thank you for your assistance in this matter.  We would indeed be most grateful for your continued assistance, as I feel this is a potentially delicate situation and we have no desire to give any appearance of scapegoating members of your clan in general or in particular.  Your involvement, as you observed, helps defuse any such appearance, and it's possible that a non-dwarf or non-Dark Iron clan member might not have found the tobacco seller as forthcoming.

A visit to this Stonesmoke plantation might be in order, as soon as possible.  Let us know when you would be available.

You have my personal thanks for all you have done, and have offered to do.

Sincerely,

Etharion Longsight, Cmndr.

Dear Sir,

I am appreciative of your thanks and I agree with your assessment. My hours of work should not interfere with investigations happening in early evening on the weekdays and I have no prior engagements on weekends. I would be glad to accompany you and others to the plantation at your convenience.

((This letter appears to have been hastily scrawled on parchment as blots and smears of undried ink bedeck most of the page.))

Servitors,

I have received news from some of the mountaineer scouts outside the Dark Iron holdout of Dun Modr. This is strictly off the record.

They have reports of increased activity within the holdout with greater numbers of camp and hearth fires being seen in the past few days.

An informant of theirs has told of an important gathering taking place on the evening of Friday the 29th within the townhall of Dun Modr.

This may give us some information useful for the investigation. If you have those in ranks experienced in infiltration and covert movements, perhaps they can get in to grab an earful of something important.

After Action Report - Plantation Confrontation

17:00-19:00 Monday 22 February

Mission Lead: Sergeant Brommidor Stonebrow (BS)

Mission Team:
-Commander Etharion Longsight (EL)
-Advisor M. Mindspanner (M)
-Warden Jocastia Silverwright (JS)
-Soldier Seda Artec (SA)

Initial Contact:

Mission team arrived and met at Menethil Harbor, Wetlands at 17:00. BS gave briefing on the location and target the team would be heading to and apprehending. Gear check was performed to ensure non-lethal attacks were made to subdue the target. After briefing, mission team made its way to the target location at Stonesmoke Tobacco Plantation in the foothills southeast of Menethil Harbor.

Mission team was escorted by four mountaineer commandos who provided support and cover as mission team performed aerial insertion into plantation using cloud cover. The guard rotation was in effect and the mission team was able to reach the farmhouse where the target was believed to be. SA breached the entry with her warhammer and mission team entered.

Target Altercation:

Mission team's timing and entrance took the targets by surprise. They encountered the target, Garvad, a Dark Iron warlock believed to be heading a separatist movement, along with a second dwarf who was unidentified at the time yet bore a dagger of similar make to one found at the scene of the mountaineer murders.

BS and JS combined to quickly subdue the secondary target utilizing a tackle followed with a fel curse. Primary target Garvad eluded initial attack by M but was caught in a freezing trap by EL who arrived shortly after breaching. Primary target retaliated by summoning imps and a fel-hunter demon.

Fel-hunter demon struck the mission team ferociously, subduing BS from further participation in combat, inflicting heavy damage to M, as well as heavy damage to SA's armor. JS repelled imps which proceeded to attack EL, whom compelled them to flee with an explosive trap.

SA subdued primary target through electro-static submission, rendering him incapable of combat. Mission team then proceeded to combat fel-hunter, finally bringing it down by a warhammer to the skull.

Primary and secondary targets were injected with fel hunter blood to disable fel-casting abilities, bound, and passed off to mountaineer commandos to be taken to Ironforge for detainment.

JS summoned an escape portal after first aid was administered to BS and M. All team members were safely transported back to Wildhammer Keep. BS and M were taken to infirmary for medical attention. BS remained under infirmary care, M was released.

Summary:

Mission team successfully apprehended it's primary target, Garvad (aka Garvad the Reckless), through non-lethal means. Mission team also apprehended unexpected secondary target through non-lethal means. Both targets were taken to Ironforge and processed into their criminal retention facility.

No civilians or excess targets were fatally wounded during mission, except for the warlock's fel-hunter demon.

BS and M sustained heavy injuries. M received care from bio-necrologist Perianna Blastfizzle, and was released from infirmary care. BS received immediate medical attention and is in infirmary recovery for one week.

Commander Longsight presented Warden Silverwright with a field promotion for her exemplary efforts during the mission, promoting her to the rank of Sergeant.

Greetings Servitors,

I write to you all with tidings of justice. Last week in Ironforge, the sentencing trial was held for the separatist instigator Garvad (stelf-styled as 'the Reckless') and his accomplice Bevo Bottlebrew. I am pleased to write that they were found guilty of their crimes against the Alliance and the Kingdom of Ironforge and will be locked away for a long time.
I write this to congratulate you all on your efforts to assist in their arrests and imprisonment, which no doubt helped to thwart a very real threat to our people.
During the trial, the evidence which you all managed to gather, allowed the Council to prompt Garvad to reveal more about his plot. From his confessions, it was learned that Garvad's plantation was being used to smuggle in weapons and armor to be used for an attempted strike against Alliance forces in the Wetlands.
Missives from Garvad's home (which you recovered) were found to be from a Dark Rune Clan of ogres, detailing correspondence and shipments of the weapons and armor from the Arathi Highlands. Additionally, it was discovered that Garvad's proficiencies in fel and shadow magic were being used to commune with demonic forces, who also provided aid to the separatists. Evidence of this was found in the two daggers recovered from the murder site and from Garvad's home. Both daggers were found to be demonforged, from a metal not of this world.
Additional investigations and a bolstering of forces have been provided for the Wetlands region as the Kingdom of Ironforge readies itself for a possible return of this threat. For now, there has been no further indication of separatist cells working within Dwarven lands, but as our neighbors to the north, we wish to urge caution to you in this regard and to keep vigilant against any possible threats.
The Mountaineers and the Kingdom of Ironforge thank you all again for your service.

Respectfully,
Corporal Dwamling Kettleburn, 6th Mountaineer Regiment 'Dragonfire'

P.S. Keep safe, and never hesitate to reach out to us in times of need.
