OVERVIEW:
Investigate the presence of Forsaken troops moving crates under the cover of darkness. Preliminary surveillance brought to light the fact that just inside Caer Darrow's underbelly was under armed guard.
OBJECTIVES:
- Enter the Scholomance complex
- Investigate the presence of Forsaken and the armed guards at Caer Darrow
- Attain any relevant information
- Safely extract the squad
MISSION SUMMARY:
Once all of the Servitors approached the upper level of Caer Darrow, Initiate Pureheart Malor lead the team into the depths of Scholomance. The squad first encountered the armed guards and took them down quickly. It was noted that the skulls of the skeletons had necrotic needles (that are associated with The Needler) lodged in. The squad moved on and encountered a large, skeletal mage. The mage was taken down, though after it's body collapsed, it's consciousness appeared to transfer to a large jar in the center of the room. This forced the Servitors to smash the jar. All texts and tomes in that chamber were lost in the battle. It was noted by Commander Longsight that this might have been an attempt by The Needler to create a lich.
The Servitors moved forward and encountered a Forsaken Illusionist. She attacked the party, but they successfully defeated the Forsaken with little incident. There was little of significance, beyond the collection of one of the ominous candles in the room. It was noted that a large candle in the center of the room had appeared to resurrect skeletons that the Servitors had previously defeated.
The squad moved ahead and encountered what appeared to be a friendly-alligned Forsaken and a necromancer that was antagonizing her. She was battling a never ending force of skeletons. She called for the Servitors to aid her, and they did. The necromancer then retreated and the Forsaken followed him. Before the squad could pursue, a whirlwind was stirred up in the center of the room and it spawned a large skeletal abomination. The Servitors battled this creature with little incidence, as well. It was noted that this creature has several skeletons that made it, and each of the skulls within its form had needles.
As the Servitors moved beyond this, they found the Necromancer channeling some kind of dark energy into the Forsaken. This dark energy caused the Forsaken to lose control of her will and attack the Servitors. As the Servitors battled on, the necromancer then began to channel into her body again. He tore her sole from her body and forced it to attack the Servitors. The necromancer then resurrected her body, and forced both the soul and body to attack the squad simultaneously. As the group defeated the Forsaken, she attacked the necromancer and forced him to retreat. With her last breath, the Forsaken told the Servitors to search a chest in the room. Within the chest, they found letters in a strange script that was similar, but different from Gutterspeak. It was noted that one of the letters was written in common and referenced a Mr. Richard Pendleton and someone simply referred to as "The Professor". Additionally, those names and that of The Needler were consistently used throughout the untranslated documents.
As the squad moved to the next room, they discovered that some of the remnants of the Cult of the Damned resided in Scholomance. It was noted that this necromancer they have encountered might be the new master of the cult.
After this room, the Servitors came face to face with the Necromancer. The squad fought him, and at the cusp of defeat, he magically shielded himself and disappeared. It was noted that his self-proclaimed name is Shadow Lord Avitus*. It was also noted by Commander Longsight that he raised fresh corpses in the side rooms of his chamber.
ANALYSIS OF OUTCOME:
The Servitors successfully infiltrated Scholomance and discovered a large amount of relevant information regarding the situation there. Additionally, it was made clear that the scope of influence of The Needler is quite large.
Several new foes of the Servitors have been brought to light; "The Professor", Mr. Richard Pendleton, and Shadow Lord Avitus*.
The possibility of a powerful necromancer who has the ability to bend the will of Forsaken is evident.
ANALYSIS OF PERFORMANCE:
All members of the squad showed proficiency in following the orders of the Mission lead and combat prowess and readiness. the entirety of the squad kept their cool under the pressure and environmental stressed the mission provided for them.
It should be noted that Academe-Initiate Silverwright used ingenious use of her demonic familiar to recover the Gutterspeak documents.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Recommend that all Servitors be debriefed on the details of this mission.
Recommend that Alliance government be informed of the introduction of Shadow Lord Avitus*, as war could be aggregated by mind controlled Forsaken.
Recommend that un-translated documents be sent to a decoder and/or translator.
Recommend inquiring with any sources as to why that friendly-alligned Forsaken was there and how she knew of the documents.
